        Left handed handshake?

Senator Dole's right hand was injured in WWII. He shook hands with his left hand and almost always kept a pen in his right hand.

Same here! I knew Sen Dole used a pen in an atypical fashion but didn’t know about the handshake.

If memory serves, I think it sort of looked better for him to be holding the pen. He could not really use that hand. He was severely wounded in the war.

The pen keeps Sen Dole’s fingers from splaying and discourages people from shaking his right hand. Dole was a kid from Kansas who became a war hero at 22. The Greatest Generation.

Thanks for the explanation, I remember he always had that pen in the right-hand but I was not quite sure of the reason.

Can I just say how ridiculous it is that government shutdowns are even a possibility in the United States? Its pretty dismaying.
