The art of beautiful penmanship reflects a time when people in general took more care with everything they created; it's probably a good thing the creation of the constitution was in their hands, not the current generation in power.
At first glance it appeared to me that the seals were a stem of stylized roses; as perhaps they were, metaphorically speaking. The signatures of men who had pledged “our Lives, our Fortunes, and our Sacred Honor”, like seeds buried beneath the snows of Valley Forge, blossom here.

Looked it up myself. He was sent by the British Government to treat with the united colonies and signed on their behalf. Earlier, Hartley had been the first member of parliament to put the case for abolition before the House of Commons.... 1/2
moving a resolution in 1776 that "the slave trade is contrary to the laws of God and the rights of men." Quite a legislator and ambassador!

Just finished the George Washington + John Adams chapters in Presidential Courage this week. Great book!
They must be rolling over in their graves every time Trump opens his mouth. Wonder what history books will tell our Kids/Grands about The Grifter
