What I love about this picture is the juxtaposition of one technology in its first flowering: the skyscraper, and another at its sunset: the horse carriage, in the same moment. What a wonder the Flatiron must have seemed to someone moving at the speed of hooves.

Gorgeous. Area looks remarkably similar even now with Madison Park on the left.

probably not. the famous Steichen photo is a night shot. the Flatiron's always been heavily photographed. (I work in the building)

The photo angle conceals the fact the base & floors are triangular, giving the building far more stability than it would seem to have. I had to look this up. I wondered if there was room for a hallway, or if you could see right through from one side to the other.pic.twitter.com/8qyRz6V5Sw

Don't wanna be a cynic, but… how does that building stay vertical??

The angle at which the photo was taken conceals the fact the building has a triangular floor shape. This makes it look like it's as narrow all the way back as it is at the pointy front. I didn't know this till I looked it up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Edificio_Fuller_(Flatiron)_en_2010_desde_el_Empire_State_crop_boxin.jpg …
