        Yes, I often wonder how women kept those long skirts clean in days before dry cleaning and washing machines. Lots of household help, I guess, and a generous budget for clothes.

        Those clothes look about 1910 (a little wide for '12 and a bit narrow for much earlier). Note the skirts are not dragging on the ground either.

        They would wear pantaloons( panties down to the knees or more, a corset, a slip like thing under that, several petticoats and heavy cotton or wool stockings and I’m sure there was another slip over the corset.
