On the right, down the street, you might be able to glimpse the Singapore Lounge, where my mother worked. And the Alabam, where Auntie Marion sang! We called it Glitter Gulch. Now--Barney's, Hermes, etc. & multiple Starbucks.

Apparently, Tony's Cellar was on Rush St just north of Delaware, so here's what it looks like today on Google Maps street view... (uninspiring): https://www.google.com/maps/@41.8991298,-87.6268769,3a,46y,349.93h,109.6t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sMNmJr72qC7VcyxI5BI9tZQ!2e0 … North end of Rush St is now called "The Viagra Triangle" b/c of wealthy older men who frequented the bars.

I can't say this enough, thank you Mr. Beschloss, for your wit, wisdom, and sense of history; we need more. And you find the coolest old pictures. Happy New Year to you and yours, Sir.

.It's amazing how clean everything looked then; no graffiti, homeless with shopping carts, mentally ill on the streets, etc....

My late father-in-law owned the Cloister Inn in the Maryland Hotel. Ramsey Lewis, Lenny Bruce, many others performed there. He actually fired Art Blakey!
