Today would be a good day to donate to Puerto Rico hurricane relief to honor Roberto Clemente. He would be there if he were alive.

He died as a humanitarian, but he could throw a strike on the fly from right field to home plate and nail runners that would otherwise score. It's my #1 professional sports memory, that I witnessed in person.

I was 13 yrs old when Clemente died. But I was old enough to know by watching him play that he was a very special talent. Was an even better man! #21!!

Every living soul in the Pittsburgh area wept that day. And many others throughout the nation.
-
I was 15. I not only cried, but I lived in denial for days. I kept holding out hope they would find him on a beach or a desert island. How could Superman die? To this day, my one and only sports hero of my lifetime.

My dad got the call at 5:30am. One of the few times I saw #19 cry. My dad played with him for 10 yrs and said he was the most complete ball player he’d ever seen.

Thank you for the recognition of Roberto, he was on a mission to help Nicaragua after a devastating earth quake. He was loved in many places, for his generosity. Clemente was a quiet hero, still missed in Pittsburgh.

One of the best all time, on and off the field. I still remember him throwing out a runner from right field that was going for third base, shot out of his arm like a cannon

And it is all so ironic given the way D.C. has treated and is treating
#puertorico during their humanitarian crisis now. Shameful and so unlike Clemente’s spirit #21Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
