        The whole family stayed. Elizabeth worked in a motor pool and can repair a Jeep. They thought it was important to the morale of Londoners for them to show they could take it. It’s one reason the Queen Mother was so revered. I have enormous admiration for them for having stayed.

        One of my aunts grew up in London and was there when the Germans were bombing it, she met my uncle who was stationed with the army for four years, after the war they got married, she died this year at 94, uncle still alive.

        Keep telling myself that if my dad& family coped during this, I can cope w insanity in the WH. Our country survived 1968. If we are determined, we will survive this.

        My Dad was there,in Bayswater , born in 1932 so 8 years old too.

        Yes, but. What do you mean, "withstands"? Did London have a choice? Didn't the people of Portsmouth, Berlin, Dresden, Moscow, Nagasaki "withstand" the war?
