A new beginning. That ended terribly.

Much better than having scores of Soviet divisions with tactical nukes in E.Germany, Czechoslovakia, etc
-
Scores of Russian divisions and the the invasion of Ukraine, Georgia and Chechnya and western Europe offensive war games has been an improvement? The election meddling of 2016? The continuing harrassment and murder of non-sychophant journalists? Olympic doping? On and on...
-
Are you kidding me? How old are you, 17? Are you familiar with the Soviet order of battle in E.Europe in the 70s- 80s?
-
Not kidding. All those items in the news. Maybe not on Fox though, so I’d understand if they’re new to you. A Russian ex-FSB dictator now holds the codes to RU nukes. A backruptcy artist and groper has ours. Fun times. Have you analyzed Putin’s latest war games? No? You should.
-
I was on the line against the USSR, and you? I suggest you read this for perspective:https://www.lrb.co.uk/v40/n01/jackson-lears/what-we-dont-talk-about-when-we-talk-about-russian-hacking …

Wow. So much unsubstantiated garbage there it’s hard to know where to begin. With the conflation of Bernie and Trump, ignoring Clinton’s vote count was +3M Trump’s? With the absence of any mention of Trump’s broken promise to release his taxes and clear up much of the mess?
-
With the absense of any mention of the western airliner shot down by RU forces adventuring in east Ukraine? With the treatment of Russia as benign friend despeite a legacy of murder and election-fixing by their own ex-FSB strongman (who himself says “no such thing as ex-FSB”)?

In my freshman Poli sci class, I predicted 3 years before this that Yeltsin would be the next leader of Russia. Prof said maybe, but that the breakup would result from ethnic splits. Three years later, we both recognized we were both right.
-
He thought I was prescient for calling the next leader. I said, "This is Poli Sci. Who doesn't matter. You got the why. You win."

You’re a day early for this anniversary. The paper says 26 December.
-
The Soviet Union ended today. Thus it was reported in the following day's paper. That's what he said. (Don't worry, I had to do a double-take, too)

Did I miss the part where today is December 26?

The Soviet Union ended today, thus it was reported in the following day's paper. That's what he said. (Don't worry, it took a double take for me to figure it out, too)
-
Thanks for clarifying - I only looked at the date of the paper

What makes you think it ever ended? Navalny was just banned from running today.
-
It ended, the resurgence of a nationalist Russia as a succession state has been an ongoing subject apart from the soviet experiment...

It could have gone so well for Russia if they had left Gorbachev in charge.
