Time was planning to name The Man of the Year for 1968 "The Dissenter," but on Dec 28, 1968 the editors suddenly changed the issue. The editors said The Dissenter worked toward utopia -- Apollo 8 demonstrated that a better utopian tomorrow was still achievable.

Anders was working for the National Space Council in White House during Nixon's shuttle decision. He says the shuttle design that was chosen was to ensure the greatest number of jobs/votes in California for 1972 presidential election.
