I grew up in South Florida. That game was blacked out in Miami because the game didn't sell out in time. We were probably the only TV market in the entire country that didn't learn about Lennon's assassination that way.

Practically every Dolphins national game was blacked-out. I'm convinced we saw more Cowboys games on TV than Fins.
-
It is kind of strange how often they were blacked out back in the day when you consider it's not like the Dolphins had a lot of down seasons under Shula (although 1980 was definitely one). They finished that season 8-8.

John Lennon loved American football; he helped co-host the games with Cosell.

David, well aware. Howard & I grew up in South Florida so we were also reminiscing about the Dolphins. My first tweet of yesterday was about John Lennon, as it is every December 8. My favorite Beatle.

I was 22. Remember it like yesterday. It's still a little hard to believe. It was almost as if an entire era had died.
-
Damn, I was the same age.

I used to try and tell people a little younger, that to compare John Lennon to Kurt Cobain was totally disrespectful to Lennon. They can't understand and we can't ever make them understand, but we list a voice beyond rock n' roll.

I walked right by his apt. not twenty minutes before it happened - found out on TV but don't recall what was on ... shocked that night, burst into tears brushing my teeth the next a.m.

Did you see Chapman waiting?

Unforgettable moment. Howard did a great job with this shocking and very tragic and sad event.

Had the UCLA college radio station on via my tv (early cable perk) when they interrupted with the news about Lennon. My knees gave way, fell to floor too stunned to cry or breathe. Lennon was an intellectual as well as musical idol.

Unforgettable. I didn't believe it when I first heard the news at work in downtown Chicago. Then at my neighborhood diner I learned it was true. I sat there and cried with all the waitresses.
