LBJ was a real POS for demanding she be a part of this picture. Admire her grace and dignity throughout the situation.

Bobby, they were basically considered royalty in the country, plus, there were a lot of them; Kennedys. Believe I remember reading she's in the pic to show the nation she/the family was ok with LBJ being sworn in.

I understand the reasoning but The Kennedy’s, especially Bobby, despised LBJ. It was disrespectful to put her in that situation. He insisted she be in the photo. Regardless, the point is Jackie showed incredibly bravery and dignity given the situation

She was amazing. Funny you mention that about Bobby. Saw the new movie with someone who wasn't around then and talking about the movie after she referred to Bobby as "that snotty little one" not sure which Kennedy he was.
-
Another interesting point about the swearing in on the plane.. LBJ said Bobby told him to immediately take the oath of office on the plane, but Bobby denied he ever said that! I wish we had a leader like JFK today. He was such an inspiration to the people.

I really do appreciate the remembrances in real time provided by
@BeschlossDC; however, the absurd hate and conspiracy theories mostly directed at LBJ who became an extraordinary proponent of a progressive domestic agenda are preposterous. - 1 more reply

Would be interesting to know what a body language expert would say about the others in that photo

Thank you for this series of photos throughout the day.I've seen some of them before, but not all.I live very near the Kennedy Compound, & would see Ted riding around on his golf cart.I saw him sail the Figawi races on his boat "Mya", then saw him after his diagnosis.Big smile

I’m amazed and have enormous admiration for Jackie saying just that. She was absolutely right. There’s so much more - but it’s too heartbreaking. What she had in her hand in the hospital, standing by LBJ when she wanted to stay by her husband, John’s b’day. At 34.
