I didn’t realize there were less than 2 hours between JFK being shot and LBJ being inaugurated, especially since the casket and mrs Kennedy were on the plane. That’s incredibly fast.

That's bc LBJ refused to leave TX until he got what he'd been waiting for.

After an extraordinarily insensitive phone call to Robert Kennedy asking him about the details of his oath of office.

They had to get her away from his body so they could switch it with JD Tippet.

That moment made me sick! At a young age I never really trusted his motive!

Johnson was such a dick to ask Jackie to be a part of this.

I think the next picture is the most heartbreaking when Mrs Kennedy has to stand there during the oath. Incredible bravery

I've seen this but the photo of Jackie ascending the stairs to the plane in a blood stained suit - I had not seen that before that I recall. Such strength and grace - or maybe mostly shock.

His speech when they landed in DC did that too. Just pointing out swearing in was just ceremonial.

Johnson was already President. Could have been sworn in once in Washington. Perhaps he wanted to demonstrate succession of power to the Soviets considering they had no clue who was behind assassination.

Mrs. Johnson is in shock as was the nation. Her recording of that day and Mrs. Kennedy is heartbreaking.

Pres Johnson was very gracious with Jackie. He told her several times, after returning to DC, to take as much time as she needed to move out of the White House. He also checked in w/her frequently after she left DC.
