The Kennedy-Nixon campaign was my introduction to politics. I didn’t understand voting, but my older sister told me we had to vote for Kennedy because he was a Dem & Dems were for working ppl. I didn’t sleep until my parents assured me they voted for Kennedy

Between Brinkley and Garroway, hard to say who was more wry. A different era in television hosts.
-
Brinkley, IHMO, had an inimitable dry wit, delivered with a Southern cadence.

Thank you Professor Beschloss. Chet Huntley and David Brinkley anchoring NBC's election results in 1960 between Kennedy and Nixon was a night to remember.

How history would have been different had Nixon won. Kennedy wouldn't have been assassinated. Johnson might not be President. Vietnam would've been different. Who knows what would have happened after the 60's. Elections have consequences.

I also remember my parents (who never split their votes) debating whether it would be safe to vote for Kennedy, because he might tell state secrets in Confession. They voted for Kennedy.

The "Today" team, back when things made sense. Frank Blair, Jack Lescoulie, Dave Garroway and J. Fred Muggs. Today, try to pick who isn't the monkey.pic.twitter.com/XRBLQl8Lp6
