Utterly reasonable point of view, and yet Ford did the right thing for the nation.

Revealing my ignorance on this issue (I'm young and wasn't taught about this in school), what made the Nixon pardon the right decision?

It redirected our national attention. A trial and possible prison term for Nixon would have shamed not only him but all of us. My two cents.

As I recall, he pardoned Nixon for the good of the country. He did not want the country to be bogged down in a long painful trial.

He betrayed the President? Or did the President betray the country? Don't want to put words in your mouth, but the office is not a throne.
