I think of this as America’s Birthday. 1776 as conception, the War as a long pregnancy!
I always think the birthday should be the day the constitution was ratified
The logic in the Declaration, "consent of the governed", states were are free when we say so. Don't need Brits to agree.
Ok but we didn't become an actual country until we agreed to the terms of the constitution right? Nothing to do with Britain
No, we became a Nation even before The Constitution. Articles of Confederation was prior to the Constitution. July 2, 1776 became nation
We the union became a Nation when we all agreed on the constitution in Philadelphia.
The Constitution became law June 21 1788. What were we for the 12 preceding years?
Something tells me they would be heartbroken right now to c what's happening w/a Pres Trump
Finished the war but not the painting.
We should all remember this date but I admit I didn't. Why don't we memorialize such a significant event more? Like, "OK, Here We Go!" Day.
Ben -- I'm the dude, call me the DUDE !!! George -- that rug really tied the room together John -- What ?? George -- shut up Johnny
It was a nice run.
I guess the artist ended that painting too...
The British delegation didn't stick around to be captured long enough for the painting (go figure). So West (artist) left it as-is
So why is this not a major national holiday?
Good day to dump Trump.
