I always wondered at pics from this late period--do you think the hair was a kind of gesture to the anti-war movement?

I think it was a gesture to totally not caring and knowing he was dying soon. He was certain he was going to die at 65, and he did!

He look so much better in retirement than his last year in office. A haunted, defeated man then. Announced he wd not seek or accept 2nd term
-
I remember his broadcast from the Oval Office. Young people in the streets sang "ding, dong, the witch is dead." But Vietnam War cont'd.
-
I was young then. It took me decades to see the tragedy of this life, LBJ's Like the character from Greek myth, flew too close to the sun
-
I appreciate the domestic policy LBJ. Civil rights, voting rights. Vietnam was a terrible, terrible war.
-
He planned to do more on domestic policy, "The Great Society". But couldn't be the 1st US president to lose a war, so get that done - tragic

This old Texas racist became the unsung hero of Civil Rights reform. Nixon wouldn't have done it.
-
Neither would JFK or RFK have- LBJ had the chops and the ability
-
And he was from The South.....he was one of "the good old boys". And did he ever know how to twist arms
-
That's what I was getting at. It's nice to have an intelligent convo on history without some crazy person disputing facts.
