Is that really 1948? I thought Django's only US visit was 1946 into early '47. Not that it matters - four remarkable people!
Not sure. Leonard was my dad; most of those photos, which now live at the U. of Idaho, had his handwriting on the back with dates etc.
A small point, of course, because it's such amazing history. Your father was a remarkable man both for his compositions and his writing!
Wow, if I were 21 years old then, I might be dead now. Nonetheless, I would give anything to take part in that scene. #LoveJazz
Oh man we are overdue to discuss
I'm a dinosaur. You're way younger than me. #Hopelives for #jazz. Thank God.
This is response my daughter gets whenever we go to @EatLoveJazz.
I've always wanted to live in 1952 NYC, and in 1938 Los Angeles. I cannot explain it.
Pix was three years before I was born. Still, some of my fav NYC jazz clubs are gone -- #Bradleys, #LushLife, #Cookery, #OneFifthAve.
Today, the only remnant of the block as it was is The "21" Club.
As a former history teacher, I love your photos. Thanks!!!
This is between 5th and 6th Avenues. Every one of the clubs is long gone. Vanished by the 1960s.
Looking at that pic one can almost hear Bird soloing over How High The Moon.
I remember it like it was yesterday.....
Cool... would make a nice cover pict for Roxy Music.
