        At the time, supper probably referred to a late, light meal. Tea would have been the main meal, I think, probably served between 5 and 7.

        Supper looks pretty bleak - gruel and "cabin biscuits" - and every other meal seems to involve potatoes.

        My greatgran born in 1902 had 8 younger brothers-they basically had oatmeal porridge, bread, different kinds of herring & potatoes every day
