@BeschlossDC Hey that's my avatar!

@BeschlossDC Thanks for posting this, love it.
@BeschlossDC My favorite trick was to print contrasty negs onto developer-coated paper, "automasking," pulling out incredible tonal range.
@BeschlossDC It was really hard to do, but there was usually lots more range in the negative than paper could record.
.@BeschlossDC I tried an automask in Photoshop w 3 scans from 1 Minox neg, different levels. Quit when I got this:pic.twitter.com/UCd4m83SXl
@BeschlossDC IIRC Feininger also played with extreme developer temperature, etc., creating exaggerated grain structure called reticulation.
@BeschlossDC I always preferred "true-grain" developers like Rodinal that inhibit development near dark grains, creating an "Eberhard edge."
@BeschlossDC See that grain? Suspect that's from a fine-grain developer like D-76 that dissolves and redeposits silver, softening edges.
@BeschlossDC Brilliant!

@BeschlossDC The real Gotham City!
