@BeschlossDC @nancywriteon You have to wonder how many of these guys never made it home.
@Editright @BeschlossDC Those were my exact thoughts when I looked at the picture.
@nancywriteon @BeschlossDC A one-time co-worker hit Normandy Beach with his company of 300; only 8 survived the war.
@Editright @BeschlossDC When you hear those kinds of numbers from people who survived, it really hits home.
@nancywriteon @Editright @BeschlossDC The math is horrific. USA lost 500k Over 10,000 men PER WEEK for over 3 years STRAIGHT! Imagine Russia
@Toncuz @Editright @BeschlossDC Yes, the numbers are staggering.
@nancywriteon @Editright @BeschlossDC Sorry, meant to say per month, but there were periods that approached those numbers per week.
@BeschlossDC @classicNavalAir They came a long way for us. Never forget.
@BeschlossDC it's like looking at #stars in the sky that are no longer there but their light is now upon us #soldiers #heroes
@BeschlossDC my grandfather drove these boats, and was forced to go a shore when his blew up- true Heros. Thanks for sharing this photo
@BeschlossDC @SOcean5 Interesting that they are smiling, they knew they were doing a noble thing & will be rewarded in Heaven
@BeschlossDC Lucky landing at Utah B. Only 197 losses among 23,000 troops.
@BeschlossDC How relaxed they look

@BeschlossDC We think my grandfather is one of the guys in the middle of that crowd. Got through D-Day/Normandy okay, was wounded later on.
@BeschlossDC - such faces of young optimism and character, able to smile at a camera while knowing their end may be near. Heroes all.
