Having Presidents serve a single six-year term could make each of them both dangerously unaccountable and a premature lame duck.

@BeschlossDC 22d amendment should be 3 terms. 2d term now mostly scandal/lame duck/legacy. "Threat" of 3d term keeps everyone sharp.

@BeschlossDC Wilson was for the six-year single term right up til he became President, wasn't he?

@BeschlossDC what do you think is the alternative then? Allow more than 2 terms? That sounds counter-intuitive

@BeschlossDC But it could also make it harder for an opposition Congress to run out the clock with obstructionism and stop the government.

@BeschlossDC I think all recent (from Carter forward) ex-potuses have agreed that a single 6-yr terms would be preferable, yes?

@BeschlossDC Hah. Read tweets in wrong order. ;) Thoughts on non-consecutive approach?

@BeschlossDC just ask Jefferson Davis how it worked out for him. I believe the CSA constitution limited prez to one 6 year term.

@BeschlossDC - Roman Co-Consuls served only 1 year at a time. Usually nonconsecutively. Could appoint dictator for 6 mos. Worked for 400 yrs
