Michael, I was truly surprised to learn recently, from a PBS documentary on Wilson, that he was a raging, full blown racist. I'm ashamed that I did not know that. I always thought he was an okay president. I don't anymore.

Same. An example, like treatment of Native Americans, of how “white-washed” the history we baby boomers were taught was. Never knew WW reinstated segregation in federal gov jobs until recently.

Yes Joann. How could we have gone our whole lives not knowing these things? Well, it's good that future generations will know this so they can hopefully right the wrongs.

Did you just refer to yourself in the third person on a Twitter post while damning one of America’s greatest presidents? The guy who put an end to banking speculation recessions with the FR? And created the original framework for what would become the UN? Are you kidding me?

Does his blatant racism taint his accomplishments? (One example: he reversed the long-standing policy of racial integration in the federal civil service.)https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2015/06/25/expunging-woodrow-wilson-from-official-places-of-honor/?utm_term=.0133f284738b …

Always remember the fighters, not the politicians. Wilson wasn’t perfect. Study him. Criticize him for his faults and cheer him for his successes. He got us into the war. We won it. It grew us as a world power. He nominated Brandeis. A progressive still the product of his time.

Thanks so important. Also worth noting that admirable as the idealism of the 14 Points was it helped insure that the Peace in Eastern Europe was one with clear winners and losers.

Can you confirm that Wilson picked for the first film to be shown in the White House was THE BIRTH OF A NATION?

How would all this have played out if T.R. had been president? One could assume he would have entered the war earlier, which meant it would have been shorter, and he certainly would have negotiated the Armistice differently.

Written from the perspective of today, perhaps. Questionable, when written from the perspective of the early 1900's.
