Late Tuesday night 11/4/08, I pulled into my driveway after a long day working as an election judge & heard NPR announce that President Obama had won! I sat in my car & sobbed with joy. I was SO proud to be an American. /1

I truly — and naively — believed we had finally transcended the scourge of racism in our country. I never felt such a positive connection with my fellow citizens. I had limitless hope for our future as a nation and as a people. /2

That America is still there, and it will return.
-
But it won't return on its own. We the people have to bring it back. GOTV!
-
Totally agree. I have optimism that we will ultimately succeed.
-
To overcome systemic institutionalized racism you're gonna have to do more than vote
-
Yes, it's the first step of many! SO many!
-
Yes, many steps, but we can and will do it. There were *many* steps going from 68% disapproval of marriage equality to 68% approval, but we did it. One step at a time. We will do this too.

Goosebumps, chills, and tears at the memory of such a spectacular moment in time. And the 8 beautiful years we spent tucked and nestled safely under his wing.

Yes Rita! I took him for granted. He made everything so right. He gave us Peace of Mind. I regret so so much that I took him for granted.

None of us, not in our wildest, most horrified imaginations, could’ve envisioned what a living nightmare awaited us with our first madman president. To have gone from one of our very best presidents to the worst this country could ever see is simply staggering. And tragic.

I have tweeted
@BarackObama and@MichelleObama a couple of times to tell them that I miss them each and every day. -
That is such a beautiful thing, you’re speaking for the vast majority of the whole wide world.

We need to be prepared about this Rita. It is extremely scary. So many innocent children women men will be hurt.pic.twitter.com/8G15L1qQru

Last I heard on Friday afternoon, the Pentagon refused the request for increased troops saying that border security was not a function of the DoD.
-
They refused to send soldiers specifically for that named purpose. They did not refuse to send anyone. About 7,000 are going, so far.https://www.apnews.com/7e35aadd6f65499badb005a650ecdc06 …

I was there, people were literally dancing in the street, swinging from the lampposts on Michigan Ave, singing and weeping with joy. A very different world.
-
It was glorious that night. The sounds of 250,000 voices raised in victory will never escape my memory.
-
I remember thinking, “this is the sound of humanity. This is what The People sound like.” Wished I had taken video that night but I don’t think my phone had that function back then!
