I still can't get over the Bay of Pigs, i get the whole Camelot thing but still.. I mean Cuba is still under embargo
Not sure which way you are coming from on that. He admitted it as his greatest mistake. He let himself go against his own judgement, & be talked into it. CIA mercenaries has been plotting on their own for years in LA & failed in their OWN planning & execution during the attack.
There are many sides to it though. 1. he was young in his presidency and didnt give it much thought. 2. they half assed it, they could have taken cuba with a lot more force (which we had but a few hundred miles away. 3. We almost had a nuclear war on our hands...
Well, I guess we may disagree on number 2. I don't think that is a given. There are many sides- I agree. I don't think it's debatable it was planned poorly - assessing whose fault re planning will always be opinion, not fact. Right? Also was an illegal invasion AFAIK.
Any invasion is illegal of course, i think given the military might at that time just based on a sheer numbers standpoint we could have taken cuba easily (we still could =/) but also how the US has handled cuba over the years is the least amount of effort.
Diplomatically I think we could have gotten Cuba to turn the corner, instead we wait for the old regime to die, and with it a few generations of cubans.
I completely agree as a separate matter - later (say during 70s) we COULD have reconciled diplomatically, but it was political idiocy (my term) that Castro was used as a political boogey-man to pander for votes. Sounds far too familiar.
Just was thinking, the fear of communism is still alive today. My opinion is those regimes were corrupt forms of autocratic dictatorships while Socialism/Marxism/Communism & Capitalism are primarily economic systems. I don't see them automatically thru one lens. But that's me.
Was talking with my wife this morning that I wish before I die, I could see another JFK - if only so all those who never lived then could feel the energy, hope & strength he filled the air with. And know what America can really be - he did it all. To forming a more perfect union.
OMG! I miss JFK to this day. Thank you for that.
As always, you are the most dignified, relevant, and patriotic troll on Twitter. LOVE YOU!!! Thank You for showing us our beautiful history.
Thank you - I sincerely appreciate your work.
He'd be a Repub today. No turbans for him !!
It’s still hard to believe that he would be assassinated just over one year later after this address.
Thank you, Michael!
Some words are timeless and it seems that difficult days occur at all points through our history. What makes America great is the ability to pull together and overcome setbacks when they occur.
Cool! Never saw this. I like how he says "democracy". Someone tweeted that you won't find footage anywhere of Trump saying the word democracy. I wonder how true that is. I'd think his speechwriters would put it in a few times and he'd let it stay. He may never ad lib with it tho.
