Kids, you may not believe this but once upon a time, our presidents were honorable statesmen who put duty and country before self. It's unlikely that the self-serving, corrupt, unethical, racist and donor-pandering GOP of the 21st century will produce or elect another.

In those ancient times, most GOP members of Congress were honorable and actually upheld their oath to "protect and defend the Constitution... against all enemies, foreign and domestic." Most also served their constituents and their country; some even before themselves
-
Many politicians in the previous centuries also served in the military and the concept of service was a core foundation for them. Today's Republicans serve themselves, their donors and their party, in that order. They only serve constituents when it "buys" them votes.

In 2018, a Black woman reads this and wonders if the original author then, or the tweeter now, sees the utter hypocrisy of this.

These men claimed NOT to be Christian, because to them that meant adherence to the Church of England and the Crown. But they were Deists. This wasn't a broad statement of equality, I imagine they saw Jews s part of the same Biblical tradition, but not slaves
-
Reasonable.
-
Not quite, be it that that Christianity was born in Jerusalem where there where little to no caucasians, which means that white men believed in the African ideal but not in the African skin. Not reasonable.
-
True indeed, but divorcing the brownness of Jesus from the Christian religion is a long western tradition.
-
Its more of a European ideal adopted by the west during migration to the "new world", which was also not new or "discovered". Which also diverts us to the topic of migration on a country founded by immigrants who's descendants now hate immigrants. But that's another topic. Lol.
-
Absurd to think we should keep letting in Mexicans and S.Americans when what we really need are immigrants that are educated and that can take those 5 million,(now almost 6 !) jobs in an era of tech that exists today. When does it end? It doesn’t. It keeps going 24/7.
-
It is a human right to pursuit happiness, for we are "rational" animals and as such we can determine when it becomes necessary to migrate, the same way "irrational" animals do. It is against mother nature's law to prevent one anothers migration. Migration is how earth came to be.

I wonder if his slaves agreed with him.

Seriously hate responses like that. I admire GW. Was he perfect- certainly not. It is possible to admire aspects and disagree with others? Apparently, for the modern liberal, you have to live a perfect life or everything you said and did is invalidated.
-
I know right. What's a little slavery? I liked slaves. Sometimes I had too many slaves. Sometimes others had too many slaves. I still like slaves. But I never had so many slaves that I ever blacked out.

-
Yeah...we should def remove Washington from the history books and never quote him again. What did he ever do for this country other than own slaves. I only like perfect historical figures.

Someone hired you as a receptionist at a law firm, and you start thinking you are intelligent. This thread is about not quoting something GW said bc he owned slaves. Not much of a stretch to see what the next move is for "perfect liberals" like yourself.

Wow! Your overwhelming intelligence shined through in that tweet. Take a few minutes for yourself and cry a little if you need to and then go get my coffee.
