*The language is obviously outdated, but I still think it’s an interesting piece of history.
What language is outdated? It is beautifully written and very current for today!
Agree
It’s timeless. Eternal truth. But the orange menace has lowered our expectations so drastically some can’t even recognize gracefulness, elegance. And certainly not a call to selflessness.
Oh, was just flagging the phrase “mental retardation” as outdated. It makes sense in the context of the time, but there’s a lot of room for misunderstandings on Twitter.
Oh, the second invitation. I didn’t even look at it. I was referring to JFK’s words.
1) The speech, which was never delivered, was a forceful denunciation of the Radical Right. Had his motorcade safely made it to the Trade Mart, he would have told the citizens of Dallas that there will “always be dissident voices heard in the land. . . .
2) But today other voices are heard in the land— voices preaching doctrines wholly unrelated to reality, wholly unsuited to the Sixties, doctrines which apparently assume that words will suffice with-out weapons, that vituperation is as good as victory . . .
3) and that peace is a sign of weakness.” “We can hope,” Kennedy would have said, “that fewer people will listen to nonsense.” Today the American people could certainly use a strong dose of the same advice.
And in today’s political climate where the Democrats are the fringe far left party, JFK would probably be labeled a “right wing extremist” for his tax cutting, anti-communist, respect the military, anti-crime, and “ask not...” beliefs.
You are a better person than I am, ma’am.
Wow, strikingly appropriate given the current climate in our country. Gave me chills.
Thank you - for reminding me that although I might be the black sheep in my family, I will not be on the wrong side of history. It is never, ever wrong to care about our fellow beings. I very much appreciate your words of wisdom, caring and signing off with "Be well".
