We had a Revolution first, during which the States gathered for a Continental Congress. The first shot of the war (Lexington & Concord) happened 3 months before the Declaration of Independence. They considered themselves independent of each other. Took 11 years t sort it all out.

Also both the greatest land and sea fighting force ever, the USMC, was established in 1775. The U.S. Army also in 1775.

My late husband always said don’t let her get started talking about history, because she won’t stop. Sorry about losing a full year in the history of the Revolution.

By an Irish immigrant from the same ancestral county as JFK, Wexford.

It's a bit like the origins of the Irish Army lying in the Fenians, IRA, IRB. The Continental Navy wasn't technically the US Navy, but evolved into the US Navy.

Birthplace of the US Navy: Whitehall, NY. Can't believe with all the Patriotic History, it's a Liberal Oppressed Hell-hole bc of NYC, SYRACUSE, & Buffalo. Actually it's altogether counterintuitive that anyplace in the North East & New England would be Lib, yet here they are. Ugh.
