I was an eight-year-old in that crowd. It’s amazing that less than a year after Dallas they would be campaigning in what appeared to be a very vulnerable position.

This photo was on Church Avenue. The route continued to 13th Ave. in Borough Park.

What a different trajectory this country would’ve taken if RFK hadn’t been assassinated, like his brother, JFK. Losing both of them was an incalculable loss for this nation.pic.twitter.com/UdPJe8xxqX

We know they hated each other...but they put on a good face for the good of the nation. That was the kind of political unity we would expect today, but everything is so fractured, so polarized, so dysfunctional. Can we re-right ourselves?

Fascinating photograph. Notice how LBJ isn’t holding Bobby’s hand aloft, but has grabbed his wrist and elevated it. Classic Alpha Male move. These two despised one another, and it shows.

He traveled to Riverside CA in October, 1964. I walked to our county courthouse where he was speaking. Somewhere in that crowd is an 11 year old me. It was a great day.pic.twitter.com/H7aMq8Bp64

Great history of Prop 14 at Wikipedia. It’s a funhouse mirror of today as CA voters favor discrimination in housing (65%!) & feds withhold funds to punish. Issue goes to CA SC then SCOTUS. It has the 14th amend, Jerry Brown’s dad and RR. Echoes.

I could be wrong, but I think the car that LBJ and RFK are in was the 1955 Cadillac Secret Service followup car in Dallas, the "Queen Mary." At the time of the motorcade, the regular Presidential parade car, SS-100, was being rebuilt with armor plating and bulletproof glass.

Only one of them wanted to be there - LBJ so he could rub it into Bobby how much Kennedy needed him to campaign while Johnson knew he was going to romp to a victory in the Presidential. Johnson relished telling how he had a larger plurality in NY than Kennedy in 1964.
