How did that work out for you Neville? Not so good, eh? One of the weakest, most naive episodes in modern history.

Pretty well. He was allowing the RAF time for rearmament, and the agricultural sector to move to a wartime footing, while attempting to negotiate an overall defense plan with France & Low Countries.

Once the Sudentenland was gone, the Czechs were essentially defenseless. What could Chamberlain have done to save them?

Nothing - which is what Chamberlain did. To pretend his signing of the agreement was a strategic delay is a joke.

#History We often mistake evil for something else because we think they're stupid or inept. I've prosecuted murderers, rapists & all manner of crimes where the defendant was outwardly pleasant. That's why we look at what folks do & not only what they say. #peace

Chamberlain was not the dupe history blighthly made him out to be. He knew Fighter Command needed time to build up planes & pilots to defend vs Luftwaffe. "Peace in Our Time" bought Britain 21 months before Battle of Britain commenced. He did well for King & Country.

Yes, he's gotten such a bad rap. Anyone who thinks he's a squish or weakling should look at the job* he was asked to take after his administration ended (8 mos after he declared war). *Churchill appointed him president of the war cabinet (yes, that Churchill).

Really well. RAF needed the time to complete rearmament, the agricultural sector reforms were begun, and diplomatic work continued with France and the Low Countries. When war came, Britain was able to hold out long enough for the US to aid them. Right?
