By "mistakes", of course, he meant "crimes".
The thinking among a good many Americans at that time was - 'There has been so much negativity, it's time we got back together, as a nation, to heal'. Whether right or wrong, it was the first time that we had ever seen this kind of behavior in the WH. The nation was just stunned.
Even after ALL he did , we couldn't very well put the former POTUS in jail or prison. FORD did the right move for the Nation.
Are you a historian or a TV commentator? They're not quite the same
PENCE = FORD, except for the "MISTAKES"
this was a good day for the country. painful for the Pres. but the sign of a true patriot.

Always enjoy your appearances on MSNBC. Especially on Rachel's show. Keep up the good work and fascinating insight.
Profile in Courage by Ford. He was skewered and one can make case it cost him election

Wonder if Pence will soon be pressured to pardon Trump.
#Pence refuses to #pardon #Trump. Court imposes strict sentence on former #President.
We don’t care about pardons, we want this shitshow toexit the whitehouse!
Thus NOT ending "our long national nightmare," but setting up the sequel we're seeing now. "Nightmare on Pennsylvania Avenue 2: Corruption Never Sleeps (It Tweets At 4 AM)."
I’m sure Pence is taking notes.
