IMHO, this was one of his worst mistakes. Nixon wasn't above the law, nor was the law equally applied.

By signing that document Ford ensured his future as a never elected president.

Time period does not include fall of 1968 when he meddled with Vietnam peace process as a candidate. Probably should have been tried for that, depending on when info was known.

I no longer believe that Ford pardoning Nixon was the right decision. It set the wrong precedent. Nixon should have gone to prison as a warning to future presidents. In fact, an appointed president should not have the power to pardon the person who appointed him/her.

A helluva lot of voters at the time thought it was the wrong decision too.

It was the right decision because Watergate was pure theft of the Presidency. Richard Nixon was a great President and even greater man. The real crime of Watergate was the overthrow of the 49 state winner of the election of 1972. Gerald Ford was a good man who did the right thing

Ford, a decent sort of man, never elected to the office of President, did the unforgivable in my book. He pardoned a criminal just to end the controversy and save the lamentable Republican Party of the 1970's.

How often have Presidents given pardons to someone before they have been convicted? Before tried? Before charged?

@VP Mike Pence see it’s all written out. All you have to do is a quick edit job and you’re set to become the Gerald Ford of the modern age. You might be even able to beat Ford’s record for shortest Presidency.
