        Pretty sure these are Army Air Force B29s. Was a massive "show of force" initiated by AAF leaders in part to convey role of B29 - by burning just about every city in the country - in Japan's capitulation.

        The heads of Japan were on the USS Missouri to sign the Peace treaty September 2, 1945. This photo is remarkable. Thank you for posting this.☺️

        Earlier in the summer, Nat Bellantoni, stationed on Okinawa with US Navy's 78th Construction Battalion made this painting of B-29s headed to Japan.
