As was my dad's first cousin, Kenneth "Dude" Oakes. He passed earlier this year, but not before he told me the story of being there. Him in 1945 & this past fallpic.twitter.com/I1PaEkyyRj

Wonderful
There is no doubt that the McCain men were built of tough stuff but the award for sheer steel must go to his mom, 106yo Roberta McCain At 93 when told too old to rent a car in Europe she bought one & drove it herselfhttps://www.businessinsider.com/john-mccains-mother-roberta-peugeot-2018-8 …
Is that Admiral John McCain Jr on the left with Richard Nixon and Frank Borman watching the recovery of Apollo 11 from the bridge of the USS Hornet? He was present on the ship, but can't find definitive confirmation for this photo. Anyone know?pic.twitter.com/3Azuww0FNO
Yes, he was then Commander of the Pacific Fleet...
He reassigned the Hornet in June '69 for Apollo recovery and was on the helicopter going from Johnson Island to the Hornet with Nixon, Borman, Paine, Haldeman, Kissinger and Rogers, but is that definitely McCain in the photo? That's what I am looking to confirm. Thanks.
Haven't had much luck finding photos. Here is ADM John McCain with the presidential party aboard the USS Hornet...pic.twitter.com/caTEhrxksz
Thanks. First time I've seen Rogers on the bridge. There's silent 16mm film of McCain on Johnson Island when Air Force One landed. Of course, Rodgers hired Mike Collins as the State Dept POA chief in Nov '69.
And Trump's grandfather ran a brothel.
As long as we’re discussing history, never forget the USS Liberty. John McCain’s father, Admiral John McCain Jr., was responsible for a “commission” intended to whitewash Israel’s bombing of the Liberty (& murder of 34 US Navy personnel + wounding of 173)https://consortiumnews.com/2015/07/04/still-waiting-for-uss-libertys-truth/ …
My Dad, a Nacy Captain at the time, was also on the USS Missouri for the surrender!pic.twitter.com/xFxU30QSsK
Meanwhile, Trump's pop got arrested at a KKK march...
They were a part of the greatest generation. They made America Great, not D J Trump. He doesn’t deserve to shine their shoes.
Forty five years from today, what will they be saying about us??
Lest We Forget “Slew” McCain commanded the fast carriers in WWII and he never took a day off. He was a great leader and a true hero. Lest We Forget

Thank you for all you do, Michael. I love your posts here.
thank you for always bringing these historical moments to us!
