And he really looks like a cardiac patient in that photo. He is one of my favorites to read about. He was a complex person and that informed his social policy.

Any particular recommendations? Don’t know much about LBJ.
-
I do. My father worked for him. But the Robert Caro books about Johnson are brilliant and well worth the time.
-
Will check them out, thanks.
-
Also, if you happen to be in Austin, go see the
@LBJLibrary. I saw it last summer and it was an interesting look into the man.

Wow! Can you do a side by side with a photo before the presidency? The Vietnam War killed him.

People looked older back then, but nobody should age that much in just 8 yeats.

I never got over the shock of seeing LBJ become a longhair in retirement.

Lindon was the kind of Rascal you could love. He never got the credit he deserves. War on poverty, giving the right to vote to everyone, trying to end the Vietnam war and he knew how to get the votes in the house.

It's difficult to pull my eyes away from this photo. I keep going back to stare at it. It's stunning, & as complex as the man. Thank you

STOP smoking one factor

Huh. Did not know that. Started to post a mid presidency/war pic for comparison but didn’t want to rip off Getty. The comparison is pretty striking.

Also the hair, though, I think
