This is an important and really underrated moment in our democracy. If he was a weaker man he could have taken more power when our democracy was fragile.

My son is 33, and he would not be able to read that. I didn't know until he was an adult that he didn't learn cursive. It's very sad they don't teach it anymore.

The name “White House,”was not used officially until President Theodore Roosevelt had it engraved on his stationery in 1901.

Struck by 2 things: that he spoke of his Administration—not himself—and that the great concern was how to work with the Pres-Elect to save the Union bet. election and inauguration (March?) b/c “he will have secured it on such ground that he cannot possibly save it afterwards.”

Right? Learning cursive with a fountain pen was invaluable, imho.

Only one of my grandchildren can write cursive and read it. None of the rest are able to. I just learned this and was shocked. I knew it was happening in some schools...but I'm talking children in two states...middle school and high school.
