As a woman, I can't believe women did not have the right to vote in the early 1900's! Women are human and equal to human men, so I am thankful I wasn't born in that time. I would have been a rebel!

It wasn't until the Voting Rights Act passed in 1965, when Black Americans were allowed to vote unhindered in the South. The act was allowed to expire in 2007. Repubs regained power in '14. Since then ppl of color are finding it more difficult to vote, especially in the South.
-
I guess I don't understand,if its a law how can it inspire. Obama had majority for 2yrs couldn’t he had restored the Voting Rights Act𗁛
-
Actually Obama best to my understanding he had a majority from 2009 til midterm election of 2010, that was the yr republicans gained the house. Many Republican governors were elected too.. WI got Walker... TeaParty
-
Yes, 6 yrs of struggles, obstruction from them. First yr focused on the great recession, healthcare... Now we gotta stand strong this election in Nov! Walker's gotta go :)))
-
Let’s hope after 2020 Dems moves to restore the Voting Rights Act.
-
People still has the right to vote, but they've taken a knife to it and yes it needs to be fully restored! Let's hope Dems do a hell of a lot more! House!
-
Yes they do, but it hard when the Repubs close down the polling places in areas where the most people of color live. Or, for example, an entire county in Georgia, recently reported.

A woman's right to choose is overdue for the same protections. We should not have to keep battling for this right. Life, liberty, & the pursuit of happiness already covers the right to choose. This should no longer ever be in question.

Look at our cowardly, shambling disaster of a Congress. Then imagine how vastly more appalling it would be if it was chosen *entirely* by men.

But the fight for the 19th Amendment was not over. Misogyny, racism, dark money, and political shenanigans try to thwart Tennessee's ratification. Read all about it in

I was born just 33 years after that..it just floors me to think how long it took for women to get the *right* to vote! And to think of what the women went through to FIGHT for this right!

The story goes.... a Tennessee legislator who was waivering, got a call from his mother who told him to vote in favor, then becoming the deciding vote on ratification.

Cuomo is right. The US has not been that great. Making it hard for people to vote was part of the Founders' plan. 3/5 Compromise, Electoral College. They weren't such geniuses after all.
