I will never forget this morning in 1974.
-
I attended some never-to-be-forgotten parties that night. Let's do it again!

I was 10. The disruption of order terrified me. I cried during his resignation speech. My mom said, “Don’t cry 4 him. He’s a liar.” Later, when Ford took the oath, my dad told me, “In any other country, there would’ve been soldiers in the streets. But we’re America. It’ll be ok.”
-
I was 14 ... almost 15 ... and the same thing happened in our household. My father said those same exact words. I wish I felt as confident today as he did 44 years ago.

Bottom line. He was a crook and got caught. There were GOP members with morals and sense of duty then. They don’t exist anymore. Bright side, Robert Mueller.

When Nixon died in '94, there was talk of whether he could get a state viewing in the Rotunda. Even Lincoln's funeral bier was unlocked and brought out from the subbasement to be readied. trump won't even get a second glance...

Trying to imagine what Trump will say, other than blaming everyone else and insisting on his own innocence.

Nixon was a crooked Pol. But at least he was an intelligent and ultimately self-reflecting man. He will fail Historys affections because of Watergate, Vietnam. Few remember he was the most progressive Environmental President ever. See Clean Air, Clean Water, EPA, NHTSA

The really sad point about Trump is that Richard Nixon now comes across as a pretty decent person.
-
No, Nixon wasn't a decent man.
-
I'm with Jim on this.
-
maybe "'seems in comparison' - given that the bar recently has REALLY been lowered" is closer? legit, I don't see trump even leaving WH at end of term if that's when indictments will occur. "that guy is corrupt af" vs "he's actively working to destroy democracy and the US"
-
Yes, my point was that Trump is so much worse than Nixon, and that is a low bar. Was only meant as an offhand remark that would be self-explaining. Obviously, it did not work for everybody.
-
I understood your post. actually, I whole heartedly agree: given Nixon, it IS incredibly sad that your post is true. it doesn't exonerate Nixon (and your post didn't even give a whiff of suggesting that) ... just we're "in new territory" now.
-
Good, let's agree to agree.
-
everyone should agree w/ you. most US dislike relativism. (it's just one of our cultural failures) things are either deemed positive (and then taken to a society-destroying extreme) or negative (so nothing can be worse). also a part, I think: 40% of US has abandoned all mores
