I recommend reading Richard Rhodes Pulitzer award book, an incredible telling: The Making of the Atomic Bomb. It is the tale of the scientists and the discoveries and efforts to make them.

Excellent read-another is The Nuclear Express: A Political History of the Bomb and Its Proliferation-by Thomas Reed and Danny Stillman
-
Obviously not the detail of the books but still a good movie if anyone hasn't seen it.https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097336/?ref_=nv_sr_1 …

Any idea how far away this picture was taken from the city?
-
Not far enough.

Terrifying. Thought it was a picture of a California wildfire at first. Some of those photos are eerily like the atomic blast mushroom clouds.
-
Your not too far off. These fires
are so hot it is like a kiln. It looks war torn.

It's incomprehensible to accept or understand that the atrocities and wrongdoings from our past have not taught mankind how to show humanity in stead of hate, greed and jealousy. Too many lessons not learned from.
-
As a whole, humanity is brutal and barbaric as the rich always have gained the power to govern the people to slaughter and persecute the weak.

Yes, I just wish things were different The rise of Trump and his followers have made me worried and I wonder if I did the right thing when I had children What kind of future have I given them.

-
Yes, I have 5 grandchildren the oldest will be 17 next week, the youngest is 3 months old. I worry about what lies ahead for them too. As the world population expands, the more uncertain the future is.
-
I have a 13-year old boy and a girl, she's 9. I was never worried when Obama was president.
-
I've had faith in God. It gives me a sense of serenity. It's something that has been there for me since the day I was born. Neither of my parents where religious and I wasn't brought up in any church, but I have sought out and found the LORD who is my guiding strength.
-
I'm unfortunately an atheist. So I can't find comfort from a religion.
-
I'm not trying to preach or anything, just telling you how I cope.

Japan refuses to surrender. This was the quickest way to bring the war to a close. We needed to shock them. 2 bombs did what years of of firebombing could not.
-
The bombs would have been equally as effective if we had dropped them on less occupied areas. We didn't need to murder so many civilians to get the point across.
-
Both targets had significant military value that were aiding Japan’s war effort.
-
And? Before WWII we had better national morals.
-
The goal of war is not to be moral. The goal it to defeat your enemies and return stability to the strategic situation.
-
Think of it this way: look up Operation Downfall and look at the projected casualties for invading the home islands of Japan. What if we invaded, sustained hundreds of thousands of deaths of US soldiers and it came out that we had the bomb and didn’t use it.
-
Where did I say not to use the bombs? Please reread the entire conversation. It's not okay to murder civilians. Full stop.
