Of course, Nixon didn't want to resign. But he had to have known the die was cast. His political career was irrevocably sullied and he would only exacerbate the situation by staying on. The best thing for himself and the nation was his resignation. Trump should follow his lead

“... he would only exacerbate the situation by staying on.” With trump there’s no such consideration, he’ll put this country thru hell & only leave until he’s forced out. I hope I’m wrong, that’s what he’s. He also a unfettered support of republicans in Congress.

Donald trump would never do what’s best for this country. It’s only about him.

You 2 perhaps can't sleep. My history undergrad had always prepared me for my law degree. Nixon now seems for me, although clearly guilty of crime, a less dangerous criminal. Donald J Trump took a solemn word on his inauguration, & lied over & over. Now 2 our sworn enemy.

Trump has broken laws that will be forever set in history. This is what happens when one of the most corrupt men are pay-for-play and their debt has now been asked for the ROI. Ask Manafort and now Don Jr. what a $ trail means. The mob would have been laughing back in the day.

Nixon resigned on August 9. May the lessons of history and the rule of law again converge on that date for the good of the country. #Resign #Impeach

I was at F&W summer camp in Vermont, leaving on a week long Long Trail hike; this was the news the day we left — thunderous applause in the dining lodge when Supreme Court slammed Nixon 8-0 on the tapes.

Thursday is #NixonResignsDay This should be a national holiday, in remembrance of a time where the free press and the system of checks and balances worked in this country.
