Operation Downfall would have been worse. And imagine if the US had the technical knowledge to use the bomb and chose not to do so. How would the widows of the hundreds of thousands of US soldiers who died in the Japanese invasion felt?

The Japenese Military committed horrible atrocities on our servicemen during that war. Not to be overlooked

Thank you both for adding in the reality of the situation. Historical perspective matters.

It's incomprehensible to accept or understand that the atrocities and wrongdoings from our past have not taught mankind to show humanity. A lesson not learned.

The most humanitarian acts of the 20th Century. Saving millions of lives fighting those 1945 Japs who were 100x more atrocious than ISIS or Al Qaeda, was this fact: Without the devastating impact of those two TINY atomic bombs, the world would have used 100x worse. Not knowing.

There should be an "acknowledge" icon. There are some things it isn't proper to "like". Sad day indeed.

My dad was in Okinawa. He came home because those two nuclear bombs ended WWII. The killings stop only because of those two bombs. I am grateful that Dad came home, got married, and had a family.
