I miss the scherzo from Beethoven's Ninth (the 1952 Toscanini recording with the NBC Symphony), which was the closing credits music pre-John Williams.

Whenever I hear that piece, it sends me back in time to their program. Thanks for mentioning it. Here’s a link to the theme.http://www.networknewsmusic.com/wp/huntley-brinkley-report-theme/ …

Thanks. The site is helpful, but doesn't include some other chestnuts, like CBS Reports' use of Aaron Copland's symphonic treatment of the Shaker hymn "Simple Gifts" in "Appalachian Spring."

Chet Huntley and David Brinkley along with Walter Cronkite were true journalist that reported facts and did not impose their opinions on viewers. Their skills honed over the years were simply the best.

Years later on a local tv talk show in Boston, Tom Bergeron was interviewing Brinkley and showed him final “good night” clip. Brinkley had never seen it. He choked up watching it.
