        It is even more sad today as a migrant and US citizen with a masters degree 4.0 GPA, the USA army health care will not recruit you because your bachelors degree was from a foreign country. Truly sad

        My father's Army Officer Candidate School class picture. This class started 12 October 1942 and graduated 8 January 1943. I believe it was not the first, but it was one of the earliest integrated classes.pic.twitter.com/RATZydjYpd

        Trivia: My great Uncle, Kenneth Royal, was Sec of the Army and was forced into retirement when he refused to enforce EO 9981.         He liked signing major military law/executive orders on July 26. The National Security Act of 1947 signed on July 26. Executive Order desegregating the Armed Forces signed exactly one year later.

        FDR needed the "Solid South" to maintain a Democratic majority in Congress. But he did press the issue of all servicemen, no matter their color, being able to vote absentee in 1944, despite pressure against it by Southern Democrats.
