Beautiful. But before Adams was Thomas Moran, whose stunning pictorial renditions of Yosemite (ordered by TR?) were brought back to Washington, wowed Congress & eventually led to the creation of the US Nationa Park System.pic.twitter.com/GU7iKPUIzc

You’re the best correspondent on @MSNBC
And the most gracious.
Michael, you’re a treasure.
Agreed. One of my favorite follows.
Still one of the best photographs ever.
My heart will always be partial to the Appalachians of my native West Virginia, but if God made a prettier place on Earth than Yosemite I don't know of it. Stunning.
The first photographer to capture my attention. Love his Yosemite and the Range of Light. That and The Portfolios of Ansel Adams are two of my most treasured books. Never tire of them. Thank you for reminding me @BeschlossDC
Years ago I was in the house of Ansell’s neighbor in Monterey. Many of Ancell”s originals were in there and they are even more amazing in person
I've been to Yosemite Valley and it is beautiful. But I saw it first in the early '60s, after it had been colorized. I wish I'd seen it when it was still in black and white like Ansel did!
Some things don’t change.
Can someone explain the significance of the picture? Why is it famous?
First, Yosemite is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Second, you need to explore Adam’s lifetime body of work. Ansel was the best at capturing the beauty of nature with a monochromatic medium.
I buy it. But what makes this picture per se great, artistically.
Beauitful.
As with many things, it was probably nicer then.
Still looks the same -
place is beautiful
