Caused it? No. As sitting president, Nixon benefited from all the hard work that had come before him. https://www.nasa.gov/50th/50th_magazine/10presidents.html …

With the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1 on 11/11/18, an interesting time to remember how One ended caused Two and why NATO so vital. Montenegro fought by our side in One & Two, yes?

LBJ was critical getting this program going. He politicized it for his benefit, but got the job done. What a great period in our history. Thanks Michael

Actually, that was the planned date for the flight. The original flight date was in April 1960, and was postponed several times.

Redstone was a dud. They didn't want to go up until they were forced is my point. It would have been pushed back had Gagarin not forced our hand. And it was only sub orbital.

Well, the Redsone was a proven if underpowered rocket. Grissom’s Liberty Bell 7 was also atop a Redstone.

The current VP's focus is coming up with ways to deny civil rights, make the rich richer, and take away health care from millions. How far we have come.

Among other things, because he, and his boss don't have much use for actual scientific missions that help us learn more about the universe, and the earth.

actually, it was bush who initiated thr return to the moon, but don't act like the majority of nasa decisions were never politically fueld, even the original moon landing. Better then we move on from the station and set a return to the moon and mars than do nothing.

The cost-effective unmanned missions are the ones that are actually useful. Yeah, I know W was big on going back to the moon.
