@drstooks Let's maintain some historical accuracy. Stanton was vehemently opposed to giving equal protection and voting rights to black men. Her rhetoric was starkly racist, and provided the basis for literacy tests and other disenfranchising acts against all black people.pic.twitter.com/rOU33cRq4Y

Finally, Douglass made very clear his position on women's suffrage: "Let no man be kept from the ballot box because if his color. Let no woman be kept from the ballot box because of her sex..."pic.twitter.com/Lm9v0EDMtK

Douglass called himself "A Woman's Rights Man" for the rest of this life, and proved it through thick and thin. A true hero of human rights and universal suffrage. I write about his courage in The Woman's Hour.

According to Trump this guy is still around, somewhere taking a knee

Here in Rochester, we call it Mt. Hope Cemetery, which is among the most beautiful of final resting spots locally. I’ll take a knee at his grave for you the next time we visit.

My great-great-great-grandmother was there as a delegate, the daughter of one of New York Harbor’s richest Quaker shipowners. Conscience went far amongst our own.

Let's move U.S. History back, shall we?
1789 George Washington elected president, only 6% of population could vote.
