Sorry that the anniversary slipped by without notice ... I was too busy having a meltdown, watching a president* sell out this country.
Startled to note that the rocket launch towers were demolished on July 12, just five days ago, to make way for private use by Moon Express. Were there ever an ultimate candidate for NHL nomination, these towers would be it. What happened, Michael @BeschlossDC ? Why not preserved?
The pads that were destroyed weren't used to launch Apollo - it flew from 39a,b,c https://spaceflightnow.com/2018/07/12/launch-complex-17-demolition/ …
Thank you, @whenpigsflyyy . Wikipedia was somewhat misleading on this. Are those pads still extant, then? And are they recognized?
The pads were used for Shuttle launches. They're now being "refurbished" to be used to support Space Launch System rockets.
I remember that. I was 9 years old.
And I was 33, and not jaded. It was thrilling!
Too easy to say the days of hope have changed to the days of dope haahahah
When did it stop being Cape Kennedy, and why was it changed?
1973. Residents of Cape Canaveral (town) objected to the name "Kennedy." Sen. Ted Kennedy said in 1970 that it would be decided by the citizens of Florida. The Kennedy family issued a letter stating they "understood the decision." Kennedy Space Center retains the "Kennedy" name.
It's no longer called Cape Kennedy?
Not for quite a while, unfortunately.
However, the NASA launch facility is still the John F. Kennedy Space Center.
Lol. Did you write the Wikipedia article? That's basically what it says :) (in Spanish)pic.twitter.com/XUtw1ZHv9x
Thank you Michael. I was 18 and about to go in the ARMY when Apollo 11 launched. We were glued to the television !
And I watched it live, in color on our RCA TV.
If we can send a man to the moon, we can surely impeach an openly traitorous sham of a president
.Ah, the summer of my honeymoon - vividly remember watching TV in the dark to see the moon walk. Thanks for the reminder!
