Just crossed over the 14th street bridge and there are tons of boats on the Potomac waiting for this year’s fireworks. If you haven’t watched the fireworks on the Mall in the nation’s capital, you’re missing out. (Boston is 2nd best)

Everything seemed so black and white then, even the fireworks.

I still remember seeing (and hearing) them in '62. Family Road Trip: 2 parents, 3 kids, 1 station wagon and singalongs. Had a license plate/state game we played in the car. White House Tour. FBI Building Tour (included Tommy Gun demo in basement.) Top of Washington Monument.

Folks in the cars watched the fireworks, radios on, listening to the 1954 hit: That's Amore
When a moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie
That's amore
When the world seems to shine like you've had too much wine
That's amore.
Happy 4th! Our world will shine again.

Great photo! It really pulls me in and makes me want to go back in time to that night and in that exact spot, to check it out.

Still remember the best 4th ever: just off Columbia Pike (below the Bureau of Naval Personnel, where I worked) for the 1976 Fourth. The best fireworks ever. The next best was at the Boston Hatch Shell with John Williams conducting. Best 1812 Overture.

To think Senator Joseph McCarthy was likely watching this very scene... a tear rolling down his cheek as he realized his divisive lies to America were about to be exposed. In five months he would be condemned by the US Senate for bringing it "into dishonor and disrepute."
