Such amazing penmanship! We could teach it 200+ years ago, but not today. HUH?

Well, they didn’t need to learn about the American Revolution, so they had more time for penmanship.

Good answer!

Also, they had a lot of free time what with the slaves doing all the hard work.

That's history folks. Look how clear Jefferson's thoughts were and he was able to put them into words in a way that was fluid, visionary and was the voice of a man damning a government that refused to listen to the pleas of its citizens.

I think my favorite part of the Declaration of Independence is "pursuit of happiness". The fact that at that time, it was agreed to by the drafters to be so important to be included, is really something.

Of course. There's lots of contradictions in US history. I can't imagine nowadays to refer to the pursuit of happiness in such a doc, never mind back then. So many currently would object to that phrasing for a variety of reasons.

We’ve come a long ways since. . From John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and George Washington to Donald Trump. Lol what the hell happened?

That draft was found in Dorchester, MA in 1976. Rev. James K. Allen traveled to Rochester, NY (Kodak) and Washington DC for professional opinions.

Love watching "John Adams" every Independence Day. Franklin's changing the text to " self evident " always makes me smile. How blessed we were to have such brilliant minds guiding our democracy.
