In historical context this is quite extraordinary. She realized the limitations marriage would bring on her life and she was honest about what she needed and expected. Good for her!

I think in any context this is quite extraordinary.

I love it. She knew herself well and was being completely upfront about it. Very admirable.

I imagine this in the voice of Katharine Hepburn, who apparently wished she had played Earhart but never did.
-
Agree. And she got close: Christopher Strong (1933).

Absolutely love this movie.

It is so much fun! Love Colin Clive. Nice to see him as someone other than Dr. Frankenstein. This was only Kate's second film, I think!
-
Yes, after “A Bill of Divorcement.” Clive is so woodenly delightful; there’s the moth costume
and the pre-Code clock scene.
Female director, too.

Now, there is a gal who knew her own mind and how to speak it. I would only add... And if we part I get to keep the dog.

My goodness, this, in some ways, is very 2018. If I were counseling Mr. Putnam, I would have to advise caution. The other irony is that a famous line of luggage was named for Amelia Earhart when its abundantly clear she did all she could to have no baggage.

Not so much unsentimental as clear and direct. This is from a woman who knows her life, what she values. Earhart clearly loved Putnam, otherwise she wouldn't have considered marrying him -- she wasn't the type to be concerned with societal pressures to marry.

Bravo to her for making her needs very clear. Seems like she knew any expectation of a traditional woman’s role in marriage would be impossible for her. And he knew it, too.
