And I wonder how many similarities to his great “1984” he would find in today’s political climate......

David Dennison's favorite author. That is, it would be, if he ever read a book.

Leftists seem to think his books were made for specifically for them but they were really about how dangerous and authoritarian socialism/communism can be.
-
...Orwell was a socialist. You are correct, however, that he opposed authoritarianism/totalitarianism.
-
....which is what socialism/communism tends to devolve into. He pointed that out in his books.
-
“Tend to devolve into”. I mean, there have been numerous fascist regimes across the world, but...yeah, no, he was clearly talking about socialism specifically. Again: dude was a socialist. Unambiguously.
-
Animal Farm is an alegory for the Soviet Union.
-
He was opposed to authoritarian communism, but he was still a devoted socialist and believed fascism to be the direct result of capitalism.
-
Fascism is an inherently leftwing ideology. It's all about government control. Mussolini hated capitalism. Hitler hated capitalism. Stalin hated capitalism. Mao hated capitalism.
-
Hitler privatized a bunch of previously state-run industries and rounded up/killed labor organizers. FFS.

If he knew how the world was turning out, I’m sure he’d be glad he’s dead!
